Introduction

The symposium intends to bring together experts in the field of computer simulations in statistical and condensed-matter physics, lattice field theory and astrophysics with specialists in high-performance computing and representatives from computer industry discussing their experience in designing and using graphics processing units and special purpose computers for pushing the limits of computationally tractable problems.

Topics

The symposium will focus on simulational methods in physics and the computational and algorithmic aspects in computer science and computer industry. Subjects covered include

  • Monte Carlo simulations of spin models
  • Molecular dynamics simulations of soft-matter systems
  • Astrophysical particle simulations
  • Simulations in lattice field theory
  • Special purpose computers
  • Common computational challenges: high-performance computing

Date and location

The symposium will start in the morning of Monday, May 30 and finish on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 1. The symposium will be held at Schloss Waldthausen, a picturesque mansion close to Mainz, Germany.

Organization

The symposium is organized by

  • Martin Weigel, Mainz University
  • Peter Virnau, Mainz University
  • Axel Arnold, Stuttgart University
